Asheville artist Mary Farmer, working for 25+ years in encaustic, is blowing out her torch. To honor her time working in encaustic and to share her wisdom, Mary will teach a 3-day Intro-Intermediate class here at the Burke Arts Council.
In 3 days, you will go from beginner to intermediate with 5-8 pieces of completed art to take home. This class is quite special as Mary is giving each student all the equipment (hot plates, heat guns, etc.), all her paint and paint tins, brushes, and anything else used in encaustic art making! Yes, she is giving you everything you need to set up your own encaustic studio.
Mary’s art explores a wide range of content, possibilities and personal history. Using one of the most innovative methods of painting, she melts beeswax and colored pigments into liquid and then applies the hot mixture to a panel. She labors through hours of sculpting and layering to build vibrant images into masterful works of art.
The Class is $500 for 3 days. You do not need to purchase any supplies; Mary is donating to you everything you’ll need – and you’ll take home all the supplies.
Instructor: Mary Farmer
Thursday – Saturday, June 6–8. 10 until 4 each day (with an hour for lunch).
