Join us as we partner with the Burke County Literacy Council for this three-day Powers of Poetry workshop (with Phillip Shabazz) and acquire the understanding, vocabulary, practical skills, and materials to write contemporary poetry. The workshop will focus on: image, rhythm, voice, structure, and implication. Participants will read, write, speak, and discuss the work at hand, and survey a variety of published poets. This lively workshop is designed to provide participants with a firm footing for reading and writing contemporary poetry.
Day 1: Discovering the Muse. The first day focuses on awakening the creative spirit.
Day 2: Honing the Craft. The second day delves deeper into the craft of poetry.
Day 3: Expanding Horizons. The final day is about looking beyond the page.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to talk about poetry with expertise and precision as well as conduct deep and wide-ranging discussions of poems. In addition, participants will expand their repertoire of poems and poets, ultimately gaining a firm footing for reading and writing poetry.
