The exhibition is sponsored by Klingspor Woodworking Shop of Hickory, NC.
Featuring the work of Jim Sockwell, Marquetry Artist. Jim uses exotic and native wood veneer to make realistic scenes. The woods are almost exclusively their natural color and the wood grain was carefully incorporated into the design.
Stephen King of SAP Woodworks, based in Chapin, SC. - Handmade relief prints of trees and grains.
Stephen has been a woodworker for 25 years and has been practicing the art of printmaking since 2010. Over the last decade, he has honed his process of relief printing trees. Now he’s sharing it with the world, giving the wood a second chance at life.
Like woodblock printing where an image is carved into a block of wood, his method uses the same idea, but he has tweaked the process. First, he hunts the forest floor for previously felled trees; he never cuts a tree down. Then they are taken to the shop to cure. Once cured, the cross- cut of the tree is milled perfectly flat. Using fire, he will then burn the top of the cross- cut. This burns away the early wood rings, but the late wood remains. Then he will ink the relief and create prints using a handmade paper. Each of his prints is an original, signed and numbered. No two are alike
