Nancy Clausen was born in Albany, New York. After marrying her husband, she moved to various places in the southeast. She has enjoyed art all her life, but it wasn’t until her mid fifties, after raising their three children, that she was able to pursue her art on a personal level. Primarily a self taught artist, she has taken workshops with local artists as well as nationally known artists such as Bob Rohm, Lois Griffel, Alan Flattmann, Carole Katchen, Ann Templeton, and Richard McKinley. She is inspired by the paintings of Monet, Whistler and Wolff Kahn.
Her main interest is pastels, but has painted in oils and colored pencils. She is inspired by nature and finds a great deal of enjoyment and peace in Painting. She is currently a member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina, Southeastern Pastel Society, The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League and the Appalachian Pastel Society where she is a founding member.
She has been juried into many local shows including shows in Raleigh and Greensboro as well as two National shows. She is currently represented by the AnThm Gallery in Black Mountain, N.C. Her work hangs in personal collections from New York State to Mexico and also in Germany.
Nancy feels very blessed to be given the gift of painting God’s beautiful creation. She hopes that whoever views her work will feel the sense of peace and serenity that she feels when she paints.
