New England born and raised, Alan and family moved to the Midwest in 1958. Graduated from Illinois State University with a teaching BA in special education. Retired from teaching continuing pursuit of the Appalachian dulcimer lore and legends. Woodworking was always a part of his special interests and developed into a wide range of creative and functional uses of wood.
